How's Willie P Bennett?
As for Willie P Bennett.... Willie is doing good! The short of it is, they have halved one of his medications, and Fred tells me Willie is in a therapy program three times a week and that is going good too! We still have the "Drugs for Willie P Bucket" at the table for anyone who is so inclined at the shows. We love Willie. The links below are up and running for anyone who would like to drop a note or to make a donation. We all would like to thank everyone who has pitched in to help out. It is amazing how generous everyone has been. With their time, thoughts, and money, it's great to see how many people love Willie
After a lot of thought - Willie has made the decision not to return to the band - so you can find a Willie P Bennett show or drop him a note below!! Again - we love Willie and stand behind any decision he makes.

Send Willie a Note

I think everyone knows by now, but just in case you don't, Matt Simpson is the new guy! He plays banjo, guitar, keyboards, and he sings every once in a while too! He is a really good guy, and to quote Fred "be nice to the new guy"!

Fred Eaglesmith Hosts Lucky #13
Thirteen is an unlucky number to some but for musician Fred Eaglesmith there is no such thing as bad luck. The Juno winning alt-country hero and self-proclaimed luckiest-man-in-the-world is hosting his 13th Annual Charity Picnic August 17, 18 and 19. Eaglesmith sees this music-filled weekend at Aylmer Ontario's Springwater Park, as the perfect time to share his good fortune

"In my life there have been so many good things happen. I like to share it," says Eaglesmith of the reason behind the event which has seen more than $25,000 donated to charity since its inception. These causes include the hosting Conservation Authority and Eaglesmith's own special project Reflections, which was started to ensure migrant workers are safely seen on the roads of southern Ontario

Eaglesmith uses the Picnic as an opportunity to share his musical wealth too, bringing together some fine talent. Louisiana's much-celebrated Mary Gauthier is the not to be missed performer of the weekend. Returning favorites of the Annual Charity Picnic are Roger Marin and Washboard Hank while first-timers to the Catfish Creek stage include The Cracker Cats, Johnny No Cash and Neerja Prem

Relishing this chance to bring together people for good times and good causes Eaglesmith says, "In some places around the world right now people can't get together and enjoy themselves like this let alone afford to give the proceeds to help others. We should all thank our lucky stars."

***The 14th Annual Charity Picnic Dates Have Been Set: August 15-17, 2008 Check back often for info to follow!!***

THANKS FOR SUPPORTING THE WILLIE P BENEFIT
A full house paid tribute to Willie P Bennett at Peterborough's Market Hall Friday, July 27. A stellar show hosted by Fred Eaglesmith featured just a few of Bennett's fans and fellow musicians; Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, Liam Titcomb, Washboard Hank, Dan Walsh and Brock Zeman. Bennett, unable to quell his performing nature, took to the stage on several occasions bringing the audience to their feet with his trademark harmonies and harmonica.

All of this was made possible by those dedicated to helping one of Canada's finest. Thanks to the volunteers, donations and sponsorship 100% of the ticket sales have been given to Bennett to help with expenses associated with his heart attack and to provide income replacement.
Thanks must be extended to the following businesses and people for their efforts in making this event a success:

Sawdust Entertainment, The Fred Eaglesmith Band, Washboard Hank and the Country Boys, Jesse Reid, Dan Walsh, Brock Zeman, Liam Titcomb and Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, Quid Novis, Creemore Springs, The Night Kitchen, Black Honey, Big Sky Graphic, The Holiday Inn, The Market Hall, Moondance, Titles and Kingston Sound.

Volunteers were organized by The Peterborough Arts Umbrella. Volunteers who deserve special recognition include John Muir, Candace Shaw, Britt Gillick, Paul Gervan, Rob Bailey and John Hoffman.

Thanks to the Montreal House for hosting the after party with so many fine musicians kicking in to make for the perfect end to a great night. Thanks must also be extended to all who came to the show and to all of those who could not make it but still purchased virtual tickets

WHERE IS WILLIE?
Popular performer and musician Willie P. Bennett will be taking a forced leave from his long-time tour as sideman for Fred Eaglesmith's band.

Willie was playing with the band in Midland Ontario on the Canadian Victoria day weekend when he realized he just wasn't feeling up to snuff. The feeling persisted, and after the show he wisely checked himself in to hospital.

Tests have shown that Willie suffered a heart attack - and subsequently has been remanded to some time off-tour to give his big 'ol heart the care and attention it deserves. He is expected to make a full and speedy recovery.

Willie is in good spirits and thanks everyone for their well wishes.
You can drop a note to willie@fredeaglesmith.com and we will pass it on to WPB

Fred Forms 'Reflections' to Help Migrant Workers

Fred's fundraising and awareness campaign, "Reflections" has already had success with the installation of reflectors on area migrant worker bicycles. This campaign works to help raise awareness of the problem of bicycle safety. In 2006, three migrant workers were killed in collisions with automobiles because they could not be seen traveling on Ontario roads at night. Fred's 'Reflections' gathers funds and reflectors - then installs the reflectors around Ontario. Learn more HERE You can help! Please give to help make the people of Ontario -- both its year-round residents and its seasonal workers -- safe and well! Or stop by the Hobo store in Port Dover, Ontario to pick up some reflectors to install while you enjoy a scenic drive through Southern Ontario!

Great Fred Fact

balin Fred is the only Canadian composer to hold the #1 spot on the American Bluegrass chart. The song is "Thirty Years of Farming" performed by James King.
